Designing for Density
Downtown Living
Building Rehabilitation
502 Colorado Street, Santa Monica

CCSM employs a range of design, materials and technology to make our buildings more environmentally friendly:

1. Water conservation includes xeriscape and permeable pavement.
2. Energy production includes solar photovoltaic panels and natural gas microturbines that generates electricity.
3. Energy conservation includes solar hot water heating systems, dual-glazed krypton gas low emissivity windows, cellulose wall insulation, foam roofs, Energy Star appliances, hydronic heating systems, and energy efficient lighting.
4. Green materials include natural linoleum, 100% recycled carpets, MDF cabinets, no and low VOC paints, engineered lumber.
5. Building design includes sun and prevailing wind orientation.

CCSM applies the efficient use of limited land resource by pairing good design with density and by placing housing near transit stops, commercial amenities, and jobs.
